In Maldivian culture, dress is generally casual. As Maldives is warm and
humid for most part of the year, light cotton clothing is the best choice. You would likely be most
comfortable in summer linen, T-shirt, cotton shirt, light skirts, shorts, beach wear and so on. And do
opt for light footwear such as sandals.
Regulations prohibit public nudity anywhere in the Maldives. Women in particular would do well to put on
modest clothing without exposing too much. A bikini or a swimming trunk is the least you must wear, no matter
whether you are in a cruise vessel or a private resort.
You could be in casual tropical wear at restaurants and bars. When you are out swimming or snorkelling, do have
decent swimwear on to not disregard the sensibilities of other holiday-makers.
Bring along your light formal wear if you intend to make any formal visits locally.
On inhabited islands too,you are expected to be decently dressed, covering your torso down to the knees.
